At the moment I'm leaning towards either a de-contrasted blue (No.1) or the pale bone (No.6). Would love to hear your thoughts.
As for the name, I'm still throwing ideas around, at the moment I'm thinking "the Walking Death" "Ambulans Mortem". Something simple and Gothic. And something that fits with the medieval tone of the scheme I've been picking fonts based on that.
Thanks for reading! And happy painting!
H&A
My vote is for blue and the bottom font.
ReplyDeleteI vote for blue. Top font (for legibility)
DeleteMy vote is for pale bone and the first font.
ReplyDeleteI second this vote :-) The bone colour has an ivory feel to it that I like. The grey option would be my second choice as it is also achromatic. I have a gut feeling that the chromatic choices would look washed out on something that big.
DeleteMy vote is blue and fourth font from the top.
ReplyDeleteIf I were you, I'd go for a paler version of number 4 - somewhere between that and number six. The weathering that you'd be adding could end up being tonally similar to the detail work on number six, and it could all start to merge or become fuzzy if you're not careful. I love the blue on the helmet, but it might look a bit like a giant tiled fireplace when you apply it to the whole thing :)
ReplyDeleteI think you can do justice to font two, too.
I like the pale bone, but, combined with the gold, it's got kind of a Louis the XIVth feel going on...not sure if that's the vibe for which you're aiming.
ReplyDeleteFor a more medieval feel, maybe a white/red/black variation on number three, a la Knights Templar?
I'm liking the last font.
Louis the XIVth is exactly what I was thinking with the 6th one. The old gold and soft creams. It might be a good thing. Throw in some royal blue. Maybe a GIGANTIC SASH!! Lol but i could definitely get behind that idea. Cheers man. Got the brain working. :)
DeletePerhaps the yellow with the crimson? And the second font down. Maybe with blue/yellow chequerboard?
ReplyDeleteBone one with the 5th font
ReplyDeleteBoth number one or six would be wonderful. As for the font, Gothic script usually looks terrible in all caps -- in my opinion, the problem is the least noticeable with the fifth font type, but you may want to try a non-capitalised arrangement as well, simply in order to see whether it works better.
ReplyDelete"Ambulans Mortem" strikes me as slightly hokey Latin -- wouldn't it have to be "Mors"? Unless you're going for High Gothic instead of Latin, which would render the whole thing a non-issue ;)
In spite of my nitpicking, I am looking forward to seeing this project take shape -- this should be spectacular!
Cheers dude! Yes my Latin is horrific. Will be going to my ancient dead language speaking father for a decent name. And yes I'll definitely be doing my calligraphy in lowercase. But I want to illuminate the capitals so I want an interesting first letter :)
DeleteHi Henry loving the new blog, I follow your other one closely, I'm getting a warlord this weekend as well and will be following you to seek inspiration, I'd also like to share my ideas and thoughts with you and the g+ community, I'm still not sure which legion to paint mine up in. 😓
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Cheers man! My emails at the top of the page drop me a line if your going to be at the FW event and we'll grab a pint. As for which legion to paint, I think making your own is always the way forward for these sub-sects of the imperium. There is so much scope to Titan legions and knight households, you cant go wrong. And do you have a blog? ill make sure I add it to my blogroll.
DeleteThanks again man,
Henry
Yeah I agree so many ideas to go through and choose from Ive liked legio invicta from Dan Abnetts novel titanicus, but all I've got to go off is red/Crimson and gold, I've not got a blog as yet but I'm looking forward to getting started.
ReplyDeleteOne and six (blue and bone) seem to be getting a high number of votes. Have you considered combining the two for a blue and bone scheme?
ReplyDeleteI think the third would be awesome! That reddish brown could make a very cool warlord!
